BMW Langley Dealership

When building the almost 60,000 square foot state-of-the-art BMW Dealership in Langley, BC, sustainability was a primary focus. The challenge was to create a design that allowed for maximum visibility of cars for people passing by.

To warm interiors, engineers installed more than 30 Mini Canals—some up to three meters in length—along the full glass facade. This prevented condensation from building up along the glass and also allowed for an unobstructed view for individuals in and outside the building.

Facts and figures

  • LEED-Gold rating
  • 30 Mini Canals along the full glass facade
  • Maximum visibility of cars for people passing by

The Mini Canals substantially reduce energy consumption, reducing CO2 levels and fuel bills. The Low-H20 technology enables the canals to respond rapidly to temperature fluctuations. During the winter, the dealership isn’t at risk for overheating, a condition caused by running the heat at night without adjusting for next day sun loads. This significantly reduces the need to “spot cool” and then reheat the dealership.

The facility earned a LEED-Gold rating for its superior sustainability profile.
